Weather
It was recommended that I start this project by choosing an everyday view and putting it through different weather conditions. The view that I chose was that of my road in an abstract sense. This view relates to weather as I chose it specifically because of how I interactive with my neighbours depending on the weather. I liked the concept of approaching weather from this perspective as I believe it was an interesting way to approach the subject. The issue I had with this was that, visually I found myself stuck on how I could express my intent. I decided to resolve this problem by making references to the treatments that other people have done for weather. One image that stuck out to me was quite as abstract one which led me to consider using illustration as a medium in this project as it was something I was yet to use in a project. My research on different illustration styles didn't really influence my visual direction as it highlighted that drawing is definitely not on of my strengths. Nevertheless, I didn't want this to discourage me so I decided to use mixed media. (photography and water colour)
I photographed my friends who happen to be neighbours on their road an decided to manipulate the pictures by putting them through weather conditions and in a way creating a scenario/narrative. I quite enjoyed the experimenting process as although it was initially quite tedious, I found it fun because this style is out of my comfort zone. My final outcome is in the form of a small book because this is more appropriate than a poster visually/conceptually. I also intend to use a soft binding technique to make my book.
Overall, I felt that this was one of my weakest projects visually as I couldn't do my concept justice. This was down to my poor time management which meant I was unable to do the research required nor was I able to properly develop my idea. If I had the opportunity to re address this project, I would create less literal/obvious visuals and think of a newer/fresher way to visually communicate my concept.
