Graphics: Do you have a dream? (1)

Faces: yourself and others

In the first half of the day we did several drawing exercises. I found these quite frustrating but at the same time very amusing because they look nothing like my subjects. Nevertheless, I don't think this was the point of the exercise. I found having to draw with my mouth the most challenging because I had never done it before whereas I had done the other methods previously. It also felt very unnatural to me but I liked it because it reminded me that not all artists have hands to paint/ draw with therefore it's possible to create something that looks equally as good regardless of whether you used your hands or mouth.
1.Blind drawing of Gillian
2.Alternate hand drawing of Stephanie

3.Pen in mouth drawing of Sjassyria

4.Standing/continuous line drawing of myself (no mirror)

5. A1 drawing of Gillian's ear (20 mins)

In the second half of the day I created my collage out of 3+ celebrities faces. I decided to include the main features of a usual face (excluding ears) I also decided to focus mostly on eyes as I think they are one of the most important features. I definitely agree with the saying "Your eyes are the windows to your soul" as I feel this is true emotionally. Our eyes give away a lot about us. In addition to this I incorporated elements of typography in the form of 2 e's (newspaper cut outs) to reflect/symbolise the eyes missing on the opposing side of the face. Initially I wasn't going to but I decided to include both male and female lips to give it a sense of gender ambiguity.

Rather than using the viewfinder to choose one section of the face to draw, I decided to to choose 4 sections and do brief drawings of each, using different media in order to reflect the strangeness of the collage in general as each drawing looks completely unrelated to the other.
