Lens based media: Personal research

Prior to starting the LBM week I volunteered at one of the features of the Peckham and Nunhead film festival which was 'Bussey wood', an African themed film event. This event for me, was an opportunity to see movies I wouldn't usually get the chance to see as they aren't all mainstream. The most well known film shown at the event was 'Africa United'

I found the day very interesting because the point of the event wasn't just to see African movies but to also be introduced to African directors who don't usually get the recognition deserved.  What I enjoyed most about the day was that the movies weren't predictable at all (genre nor storyline)  I also developed an interest in short films as a number of short films were screened. My favourites were
  • Touch
  • Woolwich boys
  • Mary and John

Touch, Shola Amoo

Woolwich Boys, Anthony Abuah

Mary and John, Julius Amedume

Overall, I think the best movie was Mary and John because I found it the most striking because the end of it caught me by surprise. i also like the fact that the director boldly explores topics that are considered a taboo
