Designs of the year 2014
I thought this exhibition was very exciting as it featured work form across a range of design disciplines. I quite liked how everything was 'new' in the sense that it had recently designed. As part of the process, the visitors were required to vote for what the design of the year was, I found this quite difficult as there were so many different pieces to choose from. In the end I decided on 'Chineasy' which was a book in which Chinese is taught by the words being incorporated into an illustration. I chose this because I thought it was very clever/innovative. In addition to this, I believe good design not only looks good but also serves a purpose by informing/inspiring etc which this book does. In regards to my fmp, I would like to apply this sense of purpose to my final outcome(s).

Visually, I thought the branding for the Serpentine gallery was beautifully executed as the identity remained consistent throughout each time it was applied in a different format. (digitally, leaflets, posters) I thought this was a good reference for what professional final outcomes should look like in terms of the presentation.
Hello My Name is Paul Smith
Prior to attending the Paul Smith exhibition, I was quite sceptical about it as I thought it would be a waste of my time and completely irrelevant to my project. However, I thought it was amazing! I loved the curation of the exhibition as the space was utilised in such a way that different areas of his practice was recreated for the purpose of the exhibition. The main thing I gained from this experience was the emphasis on identity as the exhibition was truly a reflection of Paul Smith, as a creative he has a distinct identity which works for him. This provoked a lot of thought as it made me consider the type of creative I would like to be.
Developing concept from the creative week
In order to start experimenting, I decided to build on the concept of the bottles from the creative week as a starting point for visualising my ideas. This did not work as I thought it would as it quickly dawned on me that because I was stuck for ideas I was just dragging out the creative week. I think I became lost as to what direction I wanted to take my direction in, so I ended up going backwards. Rather than further developing existing ideas, I was just redoing them.
Overall, I found this week very helpful as although in terms of developing my project I was a bit stagnant, by the end of the week I was back on track in terms of knowing what I want to do. The exhibition visits were also very influential as they inspired me to strive for the same professional standard of work both visually and conceptually.
