Time capsule burial

I looked at how I could interpret a 'burial' differently as I didn't want to just  dig a hole and place the capsule in it. I found that I could define what I want the 'process of burying' to be. As I thought about different ways in which I could bury my time capsule I knew it had to remain outdoors in nature.

I decided my 'process of burial' would be concealing my time capsule in a place hidden but nevertheless available for someone to find it eventually (preferably 2023)

When considering how to 'bury' my time capsule I also took into consideration how I would wrap the objects in the plastic bag in order to conceal them. I thought about placing the items in a box of some sort but then decided to recycle some brown paper which would blend well with the tree.

Location: Pine tree, The Garden

Time: 20:20

I chose to bury (conceal) my time capsule in a hole in a pine tree because I remember being so fascinated with the height of such trees when I was younger. I do most of my thinking and reflection of my life at night which is why I i thought it would be appropriate to bury my personal (memories) objects at around 8 o'clock which is when I often get nostalgic.

Buried time capsule

I carved the date into the tree for added effect- 4/9/13

In addition to these photographs, the actual burial is in the form of a video because I don't think the images really capture the moment, the video provides better visuals.

  1. This post looks really interesting! I like the way you went about deciding where to bury your capsule and how you were going to bury it but mostly I like the photos you took of the process. I think they have this kind of mysterious and eerie look to them. The strength of the flash gives a nice contrast to the depths of the shadows of the leaves. The carving of the date is a really nice touch too :)

  2. Im very impressed by the amount of thought has gone into the process of burying your time capsule, i.e. you've posed questions about what the word 'burial' means, which I find interesting. Your reasoning for burying your capsule where you have is very profound which i like.
